Alumni Commitment to Holiday Home Camp

The Holiday Home Camp Alumni Association Inc. was established 26 years ago with the mission statement of assisting Holiday Home Camp with efforts in improving the camp facilities through volunteer efforts. The Alumni Association continues with that same commitment today with your donations and volunteering. Your continued support is necessary for our future endeavors with Holiday Home. Thanks for what you have done over the past 26 years and remember that we make a difference. Thank you for being so generous with your support!

Spring 2013 Work Weekend

May 19, 2013 - Holiday Home Camp - Williams Bay, Wisconsin

Mark your calendars and contact Bill Herron by May 15th to confirm your participation in the 24th Annual Alumni Work Weekend at Holiday Home Camp!

The required skill levels vary, but there are enough projects to keep everyone's little hands busy!  Projects cleaning the Cook's Cabin, cleaning the kitchen and dining room, cleaning Founder's Hall, yard work, and more!

Lunch will be provided on Saturday and Sunday. Cabins will be available for over night accommodations.

Participation in the Alumni Work Weekends has dwindled over the last few years to just a handful of individuals! Just remember we volunteer our time and talents for the children that need and benefit from their time at Camp! Volunteer your talents to a place that gives so much others!!!  See you on May 18th!

Alumni Deaths

Tim Turk

Tim Turk passed away on March 22, 2013 at home with his wonderful family around him. He fought a courageous battle against his cancer.

Tim's first summer at Holiday Home was in 1962 working as a Kitchen Boy. He became Assistant Boy's Unit Director for the summers 1963-65. He was very well thought of by the campers and staff. He cared deeply about the children that came to camp. Tim was the master of organizing the staff to go out into the woods "Snipe Hunting" in the darkness of the night. He was able to spin some of the most outrageous believable stories in a instant with not even a smile with the listener believing it was fact, not fiction. Tim enjoyed being part of the Holiday Home family and was disappointed when he was unable to return during the summers due to securing full time employment. Tim would regularly visit camp during the summers to check up on everyone and share some of his "stories" with the staff.

Tim was instrumental in the forming of the Alumni Association during Camp's 100th celebration in 1987. He was a charter member and an Officer as one of the Directors of the Alumni Association. Over the past 26 years Tim was at every alumni function with the exception of one as he was ill. He was always the person I could count on whenever I needed help with issues at camp. I could call him and he would be there with his car loaded with the tools needed for the job.....and of course lots of advice....some of which was good advice! Regardless of the project that we were working on, Tim would quietly slip away to the pier for some "fishin time". The result  would be many tall tales about the huge one that got away or how he had fished the lake out in a matter of hours. He would bring his daughters and grandchildren to camp to share with them what he enjoyed so much.

We will be planting a tree on the waterfront for Tim on Sunday, May 19, 2013 at 11:30. Tim's wonderful family will be at this celebration of his life and dedication to Holiday Home. Lunch will be served in the dining room after the tree planting. You are welcome to join us. Please RSVP.

Tim and I were best friends for over fifty years. During his funeral mass we sang Rise and Shine and Give God His Glory and Kumbia, his favorite camp songs.  His passing created a void in my life.  I miss him.

May 19, 2013. We held a Celebration of Tim's Life with the planting of a Bur Oak tree at the waterfront. Tim always enjoyed the waterfront with his "fishin time" so we felt that it was the most appropriate place for his tree. There in attendance for the celebration were; Debbie Turk, Heidi & Dan Finke. Madison & Mason Finke, Sarah Lopez, Jeff Hermans, Heather & Bill D'Martino, Keaton & Brayton D'Martino, Susan & Tim Black, Willy & Tim Black, Lesile Aronovitz, Ted Gearharrt, Kate Spende, Grace Keller, Annie Gottinger, Molly Keller, Amy Slav-Livorsi, Pete Livorsi, Katie Herron Budrow, Jake & Desiree Herron, Hazel Herron, Amanda Rusch, Jennifer Keefe, Bill Krause, Lou Ann & Bill Herron. Bill Herron and Molly Keller, Preisdent of the Holiday Homer Camp Board of Directors both spoke about Tim's lifelong dedication to his family and to Holiday Home Camp. The entire Turk family, including the children, dug the hole for the planting of the tree. Lunch was served in the dining room after the tree planting for all who were in attendance. There was an abundance of tears and hugs. Whenever you are at HH stop down to the waterfront to see Tim's Tree, a Bur Oak was selected because it had character and we all know that Tim was a character:-).
